Why letting go of who you were is essential to becoming who you’re meant to be
Over the Christmas holidays, I’ve had the opportunity to slow down and truly reflect on the past year.
Like many business owners and entrepreneurs, I’ve invested a huge amount of time, energy, and focus into building my business. From networking with others, increasing my visibility on social media, and promoting my services, to openly sharing my journey, offering reflections, and supporting others where I can, it has been a year of intentional effort.
And if I’m honest, it’s been a rollercoaster.
There have been highs where everything felt aligned, purposeful, and clear. Moments where I moved forward with conviction, trusting my decisions and believing deeply in what I’m building. There have also been lows; times of uncertainty, moments where I questioned my direction, my pace, and even myself.
Why This Season Matters More Than We Admit
This season of the year holds particular significance for me and I suspect it does for many entrepreneurs and leaders too.
Because this isn’t just a time for rest.
It’s a time for recreation.
A time to re-create.
It’s an opportunity to consciously clear our mental clutter, the limiting beliefs, the doubts, the noise, and anything that no longer serves the future I’m working towards or the person I’m becoming. It’s a moment for you to pause and ask yourself not just what you’re building, but who you are becoming in the process.
And here’s the truth many of us avoid:
Letting go of the person you’ve always been can feel deeply uncomfortable.
It can feel unfamiliar. Out of character. Even unsettling.
But growth demands it.
To evolve, you cannot cling to an outdated versions of yourself. Just as a caterpillar cannot become a butterfly without transformation, or a lion cub cannot find its roar without stepping into its strength. Can you imagine trying to run a new version of software on an outdated operating system. This would lead to compatibility issues, slow performance or system failure! Change requires release or old habits, behaviours, influences etc.
This transition from the old you to the new you is rarely straight forward or neatly wrapped in a bow. It often involves deep internal reflection, honest self-evaluation, and moments of discomfort that challenge your identity as much as your habits.
But that discomfort isn’t a sign you’re doing something wrong, it’s more often a sign that you’re doing something right.
So give yourself permission.
Permission to let go.
Permission to get rid of what no longer serves your primary objectives.
Permission to step forward, even when it feels unfamiliar.
Stepping Forward With Intention
As we look ahead to the start of 2026 on the horizon, ask yourself:
- What am I holding onto that no longer fits the person I’m becoming?
- What version of me is ready to be released?
- Who am I intentionally choosing to become?
This is my invitation to you to move forward with courage and clarity.
Not with perfection! but with purpose.
Be brave.
Be bold.
And above all… believe in yourself.
If this resonates and you’re approaching 2026 ready for greater clarity, confidence, and direction, let’s talk.
“Transformation doesn’t always begin with a dramatic shift, it often starts quietly, with one conversation, one meaningful distinction, and one intentional action“
