I began working with families and children 2 decades ago, spanning over two separate employers. In both experiences I have managed a small team, of professionals, supporting them to bring their best qualities, skills and expertise to the team. Providing an opportunity for employees to utilise their individual skill set, whilst also encouraging development and growth to create teams of excellence.
Here are some of questions I asked myself, as well as my insights over the year that I believe contribute towards defining a leader of excellence! From a leader who merely has the experience of being in a leadership role and doesn’t truly understanding the nature and importance of their role…
1) How well do you value your employees? It is important to value your employees, whilst being truly committed to supporting the development of not only your business, but more importantly the employees working alongside you – NOT working for you! This fosters long lasting working relationships, positive staff morale, loyalty and a platform for transformation and growth!
2) What is your overall vision and how is this vision shared with your employees? Knowing what the overall vision is for your company/organisation and being able to share this vision in an inclusive and collaborative way that resonate at a similar frequency as the employees working with you, can create an unstoppable team! Leading to innovation and growth. Similar to like soldier at war, who share the same goal and fight for the same cause, but most importantly wholeheartedly trust the person beside them.
3) What motivates the people you employ? Supporting and encouraging employees to identify their motivators, whilst also taking the time to see the world through their lens! Helping them to understand what gets them out of bed every morning and into work! Most would say money, but beyond this there is often something at a deeper level.
These are just a few of the insights I have made over the years, which all now contribute towards my approach as a leadership and development coach.
I continue to strive to become the best that I can be, providing the best experience to my clients, whilst achieving life changing outcomes. But the important thing to remember is that to become the best requires commitment, consistency and continuous learning, whilst also taking the time to reflect and challenge your own values and beliefs.
Experiencing the world through the lens of others, whilst watching them transform and grow can be a beautiful and insightful thing, evoking some of the most amazing feelings of joy and success.
So keep an open mind, as the world has opportunities for us all.
